Piet Mondrian

Born: March 7th 1872
Died: February 1st 1944
Type of art: Painting
Style/movement: De stijl art movement

How did he learn to make art? He radically simplified the elements of his paintings to reflect what he saw as the spiritual order underlying the visible world.

In this picture I see a bunch of shapes mixed together to make bigger shapes. I also see different designs in the way the shapes are placed and different sizes of shapes. I see red, blue, yellow, and brown colors in this picture. I see mostly triangles and lines. By his art work I can tell he likes patterns and to be random and draw whatever comes to mind, whether it's simple or hard. This art makes me feel happy with all of its bright colors.

In this art work I see a tube in the center with walls surrounding it. I see black, white, red, dark blue, and yellow colors. I noticed the white and yellow colors stick out the most. I see a bunch of little and big rectangles and skinny and fat ones as well. I can tell he's a really creative person and likes to mix shapes together. This art makes me curious to what it's purpose was and what the object was supposed to be in the center.

Shoe drawing

I drew a pair of  my sandals for my shoe assignment. I picked these pair of shoes because I liked the way the bottom came up. Another thing I like about these shoes are the gem designs on the top of my shoes. The thing I didn't like about these shoes were the letter G's printed on the edge. The part I like about how I drew this was the laces of the shoe laying nicely and looking well done. The part I didn't like drawing was the outline of the shoe itself. The part I had trouble on while drawing this was getting the shading right so you can tell from it's different parts. Overall I enjoyed observing them and drawing them. If i could i might've changed the outline of the shoe but other than that I wouldn't change anything else. I would definitely draw something like this again.

Eye Portrait

For my eye portrait assignment I drew a butterfly with an eye inside of it. My earlier idea was to draw something darker, maybe with some fire but this seemed more positive. I chose to draw this because personally butterflies seem like shy beautiful creatures and also so colorful and mysterious. Butterflies were always my favorite insect to draw and observe. They also remind me of actual people because I think everyone is beautiful and deep inside are a butterfly coming out of their cocoon to show the world their true colors. The thing I like most about my drawing is the wings of the butterfly look so perfect and beautiful. The thing I dislike about this drawing is the inside of the eye, I wish the colors would have blended together better. I also wish there was more paper so I could it a nicer background. I was in a good mood drawing this that's one of the reasons the colors are bright and happy. All together I'm happy with my drawing and I wouldn't change a thing.
